Placename

Gaelic name: Port Ruaraidh (2)

Name in Original Source: Port Ruaraidh (2)

English meaning: Roderick's landing place (2)

Placename feature: Man-made

Notes: (2) In a letter to Applecross Historical Society from Ian Mackenzie, Toscaig and Pencaitland, he notes that this is: The natural slipway between MacLean's house and the pier.

There are two possible locations very close together: 1) where the rocks in the shore form a sort of natural pier. Boats ride on outhaulers here, and could be pulled up onto the green; and where nets, fish, etc., could be unloaded; 2) further north on the shore is a natural spur of rock jutting out which protects a small clearing in the shore from the tide. It is just around the corner from Taigh Sheonaidh Fhearchair, the home of the MacLean family. It is from this feature that we take the co-ordinates
