Placename

Gaelic name: Òb a' Chonnaidh

Name in Original Source: Òb a' Chonnaidh

English meaning: Bay of the fuel

Placename feature: Bay

Notes: Òb a' Chonnaidh is a small bay just south of Creag Mhòr (Thoghsgaig)(q.v.) At this bay, crofters would bring ashore peats that had been cut in the hill above the eastern shore of Loch Toghsgaig (q.v.) and it is possible that they also landed firewood there, too. In Applecross Gaelic, the word for the birch tree is connadh pronounced 'connag', as the birch is well known for burning hot in a fire. Information from Sandy Cameron, 31/12/2002
