Placename

Gaelic name: Sacadal

Name in Original Source: Sacadail

English meaning: ?

Placename feature: Township

Notes: Kenneth Macrae, F.S.A.S.: This place stretched up the strath beyond Coillemhourie to where the mountains close in. At its head was Coire Shacadail which has now been adulterated to Coir' Atadail, a glaring misnomer for the word would mean Field of the Games and a wilder, rougher spot than this corrie in the heart of the mountains can hardly be imagined. The ruins of buildings are still to be seen but recently the greater part has been given over to forestry. Little is known about Sacadaill and it was probably evacuated before 1800 and added to the deer forest.
