Placename
Gaelic name: Sadalaig
Name in Original Source: Sadilack
English meaning: ?
Placename feature: Township
Notes: Kenneth Macrae F.S.A. believed this to be the original name of the township now known as Camastiel: This is a Norse name and must be classified as one which has been drastically changed ... Place-names beginning in Camus are of more recent date than Norse names terminating in aig... there is in Applecross a place called by the people Camuasdaila, which has been Anglicised Camustiel. By prefixing Sadilag with Camus the name Camusadilag appears and the transition from this name to Camusdaila is a shorter step than that from Camusdaila to Camustiel.
