Placename

Gaelic name: Sgeir a' Chac

Name in Original Source: Sgeir a' Chac

English meaning: Shitty reef

Placename feature: Skerry

Notes: This lies off the southernmost point of the west entrance to Loch Toscaig. Sandy Cameron said that this reef used to be called Sgeir a' Chac, possibly due to it being treacherous. Apparently, in days gone by, sailing boats used to lie waiting in the small bay behind it, at anchor, for a helpful wind.

This reef is also called, officially Sgeir Shalach (q.v.)
