Placename feature: Bay

Notes: Unknown location

W. J. Watson's notes: Alexander Forbes, 'Gaelic names of beasts (mammalia) ...' Pg 161: In Applecross a bay is named Ob'mhadaidh ruaidh from the incident - alleged - of a fox which had been prowling on the shore having got his tongue into a large mussel, which closed on it, and held it while the tide rose and drowned the fox. It has to be mentioned also that a large kind of mussel is called a 'madadh'. It is possible that this bay is in the vicinity of Àird Heslaig on the north coast of the Applecross peninsula
