Applecross Placenames Project

Placename

Gaelic name: Pairc an t-Slugain

Name in Original Source: Pairc an t-Slugain

English meaning: The park of the

Placename feature: Field

Notes: Recorded by Ian Fraser, Scottish Place Name Survey, May 1971 (PN1971.016B), this name refers to one of the six large fields to the south-south-east of Applecross Mains Farm. This park or field is immediately east of Pairc an t-Srathain, but there appears to be debate on the recording as to whether the name may have been cfPairc na Ceardaich at one point. It sits immediately south of the Applecross Smithy, and was once a decent park, although it had been planted over with conifers and was still under trees when the 1971 recording was made
