Placename

Gaelic name: Poll Làthaich

Name in Original Source: Poll Làthaich

English meaning: Shore-mud pool

Placename feature: Sea pool

Notes: Poll Ladhaich is the name given to a small, inshore bay which sits in past Poll Creadha, an anchorage for smaller boats. The mud is treacherous here, resembling quicksand in places, and also having a thin crust in others which gives way under pressure. There is a tradition of someone working on the hull or keel of a boat being crushed after the mud gave way all of a sudden.
