Placename

Gaelic name: Port Riley

Name in Original Source: Port Riley

English meaning: Riley's landing place

Placename feature: Bay

Notes: This small bay is between Coille Ghillie and Camas Coulc where people used to pull up their boats onto the shore. It is not known who Riley was. It is also possible that the original name has been corrupted, and that Port Riley is a folk etymology. This name appears in an undated list compiled by Kenneth Macrae F.S.A. Scot., (1903-1982) which is held by the Applecross Historical Society, but Macrea spells it port raignidh
