Notes: On the 1905 second edition of this map, the name is given as Meall na Fhuaid. See also The Stob (q.v.)<br /><br /><br /><br />The Ordnance Survey name book of the 1870s gives this name as meaning: Hill of the plough still.

W. J. Watson's notes: 213: Fuaid, or an Fhuaid (O.S.M. Meall na h-uaidne) - 'Fuat' appears in the Leccan glossary as 'bier'. There is a Sliabh Fuait in Ireland. At its foot, not far from the path is Uamh an rìgh, the king's cave.
