Placename

Gaelic name: Màg Iain Hearach (?)

Name in Original Source: Macan Hearach

English meaning: Iain Hearach's plot or strip

Placename feature: Agricultural feature

Notes: Recorded by AHS survey. This name is open to conjecture and interpretation. On 27 April 2012, Eòghan MacCoinnich suggested that the name should be, as he had been taught by his schoolmaster in Applecross Primary School, Màg Iain Hearach, or Iain Hearach's Lot/Portion. Màg (field) rather than màgh (rig, arable patch of ground)? It is located on the southern lip of the croftland of the township of Camas Terrach, and part of the banking supported it has been built up.
