Notes: From the Canadian place name. According to Rhoda Cameron, it is '... not flush with the river, but the next step (up).' It was a small plot of arable land. Like the area called Oregon, probably named by people who emigrated, and then returned. (Rhoda Cameron, 22/04/2001) Next to it is Gead an Òcraich (q.v.) Kathleen Fraser (09/09/2011) says that Rhoda Cameron told her that the plot Manitoba was so named because the shape of the plot resembled how Manitoba appears in an atlas.<br /><br /><br /><br />Ian Fraser, School of Scottish Studies, said on 5th November 2012, that he had come across other instances of this name, and that it could signify an area that was particularly fertile for growing crops.
