Placename

Gaelic name: Lios Harriet

Name in Original Source: Lios Harriet

English meaning: Harriet's garden

Placename feature: House site/Garden ground

Notes: This place name has changed several times over the years, and is nowadays pronounced as Less Herriot. According to the notes of the late Kenneth Macrae, F.S.A., a miller’s daughter-in-law named Harriet MacKenzie lived here at one time. She was married to Dòmhnall Iain Bhàin a’ Mhuilleir. It is a small area, at one time enclosed by high stone walls, right on the shore line immediately to the south of where Allt na Crìche (q.v.) effectively splits the township of Camusterrach from Camusteel. (See also Lios Uilleam a’ Mhuilleir; Lios Ruaraidh)
