Placename

Gaelic name: Loch a' Mhinisteir

Name in Original Source: Loch a' Mhinisteir

English meaning: Minister's Loch

Placename feature: Loch

Notes: Rory Cameron [recorded 21st March 2012] stated that he thought this name was only around 100 years old, and was given for a minister who went fishing in the hills. In the 1930s, according to Alistair McCowan, the Reverend Donald MacLeod and the Applecross schoolmaster 'Cloudy' MacLeod were both very keen on fishing and would go to the lochs in the hill above Camusterrach so it is possible that this loch is named after this minister. Alistair McCowan said he was sure that this name is a relatively recent invention, and described it as a: ... a wee mud hole east of Loch a' Chaisteil. [Information recorded 22nd March 2012]
