Placename

Gaelic name: Loch Eo

Name in Original Source: Loch Eoe

English meaning: Salmon loch

Placename feature: Loch

Notes: A name that is open to question. This loch is one of a cluster lying inland just south-east of Òb na h-Uamha near Na Feàrna Mòraand it is unnamed on the 1880 edition of this map sheet. It could be taken from Eo, an archaic name for the salmon, as suggested by Rev. Dr. Kenneth MacDonald, 29th November 2012. Or it could possibly refer to a connecting stream or small stream running between two lochs or water bodies.
