Placename
Gaelic name: Gnoigean, An
Name in Original Source: Gnoigean, An
English meaning: The little lump
Placename feature: Fishing mark
Notes: This is the name given to a fishing mark, although it is a name based on a part of the hill above Beinn a' Chlachain (q.v.) which was sighted and used as a fishing mark until the immediate post-WW II era. The original mark was actually a hill much further away in the Torridon mountain range, but as this could not be seen in less than perfect visibility, a closer mark was chosen. Information from Donald Cameron, 2nd August 2012
