Placename

Gaelic name: Goirtean Dubh (3)

Name in Original Source: Goirtean Dubh (3)

English meaning: Black corn-field

Placename feature: Field

Notes: (3) This entry is possibly contentious, but it is recorded by Ian Fraser for the Scottish Place Name Survey in May 1971 (PN1971.016B). The informant on the tape suggests that this name is applied to the area of the then-new sawmill, and that the name is An Goirtean Dubh. This is distinct from the park of the same name, to the south-east, near the old sawmill site
