Placename

Gaelic name: Iodhlann Sheòic

Name in Original Source: Iodhlann Sheòic

English meaning: Jock's Stack-yard

Placename feature: Land feature

Notes: This place was also known as Creag Lachaidh, names for a place which no longer exists. It was a rock on a corner on the road to An Àird Dhubh, on the Toscaig side and before where the bins are (2012). It was a place where stocks of corn and hay were kept. The rock was blasted away when the road was made in the 1940s. Tinker carts were generally small so they could get past Iodhlann Sheòic, but larger carts had to cross An Caigeann (q.v.). Seòc was John Gillanders of Toscaig (c1856-1929).
