Placename
Gaelic name: Allt Coire na Caorach
Name in Original Source: Allt Coire na Caorach
English meaning: Stream of the corrie of the sheep?
Placename feature: Stream
Notes: This stream flows through the east-facing corrie cfCoire a' Chaorachainn in the shadow of cfSgùrr a' Chaorachain. Therefore, it is more likely that the name relates to how the mountain can be viewed when its streams are in spate, than to sheep - although this is a possibility that shouldn't be discounted
W. J. Watson's notes: 213: Sgùrr a' Chaorachain (2539) - (O.S.M., Sgorr na Caorach). Based on 'caoir', a blaze of fire, with the secondary meaning of torrent. The mountain is extremely steep on the Kishorn side.
